SANCTIONS
He was one of 11 Bulgarian lifters who tested positive for a banned substance in June 2008. This prompted the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation to withdraw the entire weightlifting team from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He later received a four-year ban from the International Weightlifting Federation [IWF], which ended in June 2012. He was then one of 11 Bulgarian weightlifters to test positive for stanozolol ahead of the 2015 European Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia. He received a reduced suspension of 18 months from the IWF after the athletes were able to show that supplements they had taken were contaminated.
