MEDAL UPGRADE In November 2020 the International Olympic Committee [IOC] awarded him the bronze medal in the 56kg category from the 2012 Olympic Games in London after Azerbaijani weightlifter Valentin Hristov was stripped of the medal due to a doping offence. Tran originally placed fourth. "I'm not sure whether I should be happy or not. If I got it eight years ago, it would be really fun, but now it is only a symbol to remember the coaches who helped me practise and compete." In December 2012 he was also awarded bronze in the same weight category from the 2011 World Championships in Paris after Tunisian weightlifter Khalil El Maoui was stripped of the medal due to a doping offence.
