SUSPENSIONS She was one of 11 Bulgarian weightlifters who tested positive for a banned substance in June 2008. The Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation subsequently withdrew the entire team of lifters from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing without waiting for the results confirming the tests. The federation claimed the positive tests could have come from consumption of tainted food. Maneva was given a four-year ban by the International Weightlifting Federation [IWF] and returned to competition in June 2012. She was then one of 11 Bulgarian weightlifters to test positive for stanozolol ahead of the 2015 European Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia. Despite it being the second time she had returned a positive test, she was given a reduced suspension of 18 months by the IWF because the athletes were able to show that supplements they had taken were contaminated.
