SANCTION In May 2007 she tested positive for a prohibited substance at a competition in Guatemala. She was banned from the sport for two years by the International Weightlifting Federation [IWF], becoming eligible to compete again in May 2009. (IWF, May 2009; eluniverso.com, 06 Sep 2007)
MOTIVATION At age 15 her father was killed in a street brawl, and six years later her younger brother died after being hit by a vehicle near Guayaquil, Ecuador.
