SANCTIONS In June 2016 she was provisionally suspended by the International Weightlifting Federation [IWF] after a reanalysis of a sample she gave at the 2012 Olympic Games in London returned a positive result for the banned substance stanozolol. In November 2016 the International Olympic Committee [IOC] disqualified her from the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where she had recorded a fifth-place finish in the women's 58kg division. She again tested positive for stanozolol in a sample taken at the 2021 European Championships in Moscow, Russian Federation. As it was her second offence she received an eight-year ban from the International Testing Agency [ITA], which carries out anti-doping procedures for the IWF. FROM BULGARIA TO AZERBAIJAN She won gold under the Bulgarian flag at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, before making the switch to represent Azerbaijan. (1news.az, 18 Feb 2014; azerisport.com, 16 Nov 2012) |
