TOUGH TIMES He took a break from the sport following the 2012 Olympic Games in London. "I arrived in London with three injuries. I needed to undergo surgery but decided to pursue treatment instead. I also got married and my wife became pregnant so I wanted to be with her." He returned to training in 2014, but struggled without a coach or national grant and failed to qualify for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, ON, Canada, and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "My dreams were shattered, my ambitions stopped, I gave up. But now I have many motives to demonstrate who I really am and where I want to go." He later moved to Merida, Mexico, to train at the National High Performance Centre. "That is how I got to where I am. I was a farmer, I used to sow rice, corn, peanuts, squash.
